Live ReviewsFriday night at The Foundry: a full band bill that earned its overrun
Four acts, one drum kit and a headline set that ran twelve minutes long with nobody in the room checking a watch.
Shared backline usually flattens a bill. On Friday it did the opposite.
It is the kind of change that shows up in the paperwork long before it shows up in the room. Diaries, invoices and load-in sheets all moved first, and the audience only started noticing about a month later.
Four acts, one drum kit and a headline set that ran twelve minutes long with nobody in the room checking a watch.
Everyone we spoke to described the same sequence in a slightly different order, which is usually the sign that something real is happening rather than one loud person having a good season.
The detail worth holding on to is small. Give the people doing the work twenty minutes they did not have before, and almost every other complaint on the list quietly disappears.
What it means for the rooms
None of this is settled. The next two months will decide whether it holds through a full season or turns out to have been one unusually good run of weekends.
If you are working in a room that has solved any part of this, we would like to hear about it. The desk is open, and the best reporting we do still starts with somebody sending us a load-in sheet.
